Pinewood Derby 2009

Taylor is waiting at the finish line to see how his derby car performs. Friday night was the Cub Scout Pine Wood derby at the church. Taylor worked hard on his car with just a little help from his dad. All that hard work payed off. Taylor took first place in the competition.
I told Taylor to smile, he got a little help from his friends.

Taylors derby car. It started out blue and ended up pink with racing stripes. He said it was the M & Ms race car.

The championship car and certificate. He also got a hundred grand (candybar that is) but it didn't make it into the picture.

Taylor and his buddy Hayden pose with thier cars and certificates.
Good job buddy, we are looking forward to more cub scout fun with you.

ASHES, ASHES

Saturday morning we woke up to another ash fall from the eruption of Mt. Redoubt.

Trace is washing off cars.

Our cars--this is ash, not snow.

Taylor went with Dad to help clean cars, but first they stopped at Grandmas house to say hello.

Snow Kiting Festival

Trace and his "crew" left Homer March 25-29 for Thompson Pass (near Valdez) for the snow kiting festival there. They rented a motor home in Anchorage and had a great time. Trace was in charge of the fireworks display (of course). He got to spend time with old friend and make some new friends. This was a fun way to get in some spring kiting and get excited for summer kite surfing.

Trace and a pro!

Mite D Roundup

The hockey season ended for Taylor with the Mite D Roundup Tournament held in Homer. The Mariner Mites tied their first 3 games, making it into crossovers. Taylor played EXTREMELY well! He played his position, showed some amazing skating skills and was a high scorer. In game two he scored the only point for that game and in an intense game of hockey in game 3 he scored 4 of the 9 points and was awarded the sportsmanship award. Unfortunately his team was defeated in the semi finals. It was a great way to end the season. Glad it is over but looking forward to next year.
